Ecuador has really surged ahead in the bird-feeding department over the last decade; many species that were once mythical can now be seen – and photographed – only feet away thanks to the numerous feeding spots on both slopes. Different feeding strategies work for different birds; antpittas really seem to go for those fresh worms, woodcreepers, owls and flycatchers (to name a few) really dig the insect feeders, fruits seem to be the big draw for guans, toucans and tanagers, ground up corn for smaller finch-type species and obviously nectar feeders for hummingbirds! These are only some examples, because there a many more birds that come to the feeders. No matter what happens, this tour will give you a taste of it all at the most exciting feeder locations! The tour stays at comfortable reputable places on the west slope around Mindo, and Guango and San Isidro in the east. We will also take a morning to enjoy the beautiful Antisana National Park where the scenery is breath-taking and there are even a few hummingbird feeders to keep us busy; it also happens to be the best place to get close to some birds typical of the paramo, like Carunculated Caracara, Black-faced Ibis and Andean Lapwing.
